SUMMER EXHIBITION 2005 - CATALOGUE
If you are planning to visit our exhibition I hope these notes will add to your enjoyment and give you some information about the Society.
Visitors familiar with past exhibitions will notice the new layout of the display screens and other minor changes. The new layout is designed to create open floor space and improve the presentation of the work. The number of items of craftwork is less than usual this year but an attempt has been made to display them more tastefully by providing plinths for some items.
Another innovation is the new design of the printed catalogue which now has a coloured cover. Thanks to readily available digital technology this has been produced 'in house' by a small volunteer working party.
A few members have acquired digital cameras and an email address. Members who could be contacted via the internet were invited to email a picture of one of their entries. The response was reasonably encouraging and a few jpeg files soon arrived in my inbox. These can be seen on the Members Exhibitions page of the web site.
Exciting though these technological innovations are our members are primarily engaged in making hand crafted artefacts that are distinctive and individual. It is worth noting that some of our members paint purely for pleasure and for them a sale is an encouraging bonus. There are others with professional aspirations for whom the Society is one more sales outlet in the busy round of moving work between galleries and open exhibitions.
There is a great variety but all of the work is noteworthy and worth a few moments contemplation. I hope that you will enjoy the exhibition and be prompted to buy a work that surely will give you lasting enjoyment.
