LUDLOW ART SOCIETY

NOTES OF GUIDANCE FOR EXHIBITORS: Summer 2002
1. Members may submit up to five original paintings or original graphic works and up to five original pieces of sculpture and ceramic. Exhibits must not have been shown previously in any of the Society’s Spring or Summer Exhibitions.

2. Exhibiting members will be expected to steward for at least two sessions during the exhibition.

3. Selection will be undertaken by two people who are not members of the Ludlow Art Society, appointed by the committee. The selectors decision is final.
4. The terms of reference for the selectors (whenever employed):
Selection should be carried out in the following sequence:
a) Reject bad framing, bad mounting, bad hanging facilities, copies of other artists’ work or of copyright photographs.
b) Reject work of a poor standard.
c) Accept at least one work from each member.
d) Accept the best work submitted overall with a maximum of four pieces per member.
e) Reserve all work considered worthy of inclusion; reserved works will be used to replace works which have been removed during the exhibition.
N.B.
Rejected work will be clearly marked and stored separately from reserved work.

5. Any work which has been sold before the handing-in day will not be exhibited if it is submitted.

6. Any member submitting two, three, four or five works for the exhibition may exclude ONLY ONE of such works from sale; the excluded work must be stated to be ‘N.F.S.’ on a label on the back of the exhibit, on the accompanying printed card (see below) and on the entry form. If a solitary work is submitted for exhibition, it must be offered for sale at a genuine price.

7. All works for hanging must be neatly framed and complete with eyelets a third of the way down the back of the frame, and a cord stretched tightly between them. A label on the back of the picture should state:
Name and address of artist ... Title ...
Medium ... Price (or N.F.S.) ...

The committee recommends a minimum price of £50 per item exhibited.

The same information should be given on one of the printed cards, which should be attached to the picture with string long enough to hang over the front.

8. Entries will only be accepted if the member’s subscription is paid up to date.

9. No unsold exhibits may be removed during the exhibition.

10. Submission fees are quoted on the entry form and must be paid at handing-in.

11. Commission of 20% is payable to the Society on all sales during the exhibition and on any exhibit which has been selected and accepted and sold before the opening of the exhibition.

12. Stewards will be allowed to disclose the addresses of individual artists to enquirers at exhibitions unless the artist’s entry form indicates that this information must not be divulged.
