Catherine Brennand graduated from Bishop Otter College, Chichester with a degree in Art and Design. Her first job wasas a Technical and Graphic Artist in the construction industry where she rapidly developed her individual interpretation of buildings.
Catherine specialises in watercolour, superimposing many thin washes to produce rich colours and tones. She adds textural interest to her paintings by combining wax resist and collage techniques with watercolour. John Piper, Graham Sutherland, Patrick Heron and Mark Rothko have influenced her work and she has travelled widely in Europe, Israel, and the USA for inspiration.
Catherine was elected to the Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters in 1992 and has gained the followg awards:
1991 Winsor & Newton Young Painter in Water Colour Award at the RI annual Exhibition.
1992 Frank Herring Award: Best Painting of an Architectural Subject – RI Annual Exhibition.
1995 & 1999 Linda Blackstone Gallery Award for the Most Innovative Use of Water Colour – RI Annial Exhibition.
2000 The Llewellyn Alexander Award "for what the gallery considers to be the finest water colour in the exhibition."– RI Annual Exhibition.
