Joan Baker: 'And light followed as darkness failed.'

My talk is not just about my artistic journey but the journey that all creative people make. We all start with realism, or an understanding of that which is real–considering our first remembered drawings. Then like a bus journey we get off at various stops en route. Often, at a certain stage, we decide not to continue the journey–it becomes too risky to get back on the bus and we 'play safe' with our creativity.

My 'creative journey' is explained fully in my book:

Joan Baker: 'A Baker's Dozen–Thoughts on Creative Watercolour.' £8.50 or £9.00 incl. postage

My demonstration aims to show the fluidity of watercolour and the intensity of colour achieved by working in Chromacolor–a fluid acrylic paint. Textures can be created by the addition of drops of flow enhancer and inks.

Personally, meditation is now closely linked to my creativity and, although I still use realism as my base, it is only a stepping stone to creating the essence of whatever I encounter.

Joan Baker.
