LIN BROWN: Presentation to Ludlow Art Society Members. February 2002.

Lin's work focuses on 'uncovering the sacred in the ordinary, rescuing objects from a brutalised world and weaving them together with tiny watercolours into a single work of art. As she says, 'Beauty is to be found where least expected, if only we have eyes to se it.' She combines her intense and mystical watercolours with boxed collages constructed from found objects.
Perhaps you have always longed to be creative–but don't know how to start–or maybe like many others you simply like to take some time out from a busy life? With the Way of Creativity you have the opportunity to do both. It's a chance to explore and develop your particular artistry and understanding through paint, pastel and many other materials.
No mysterious technique is required; rather, when the mind is calm and quiet, ideas and insight arise naturally with a grace of their own. Each day alternates between contemplation and creative activity. Lin's artistic retreats explore these ideas further.
Thirty spokes on a cartwheel
Go towards the hub that is in the centre
-but look, there is nothing at the centre
and that is precisely why it works!
If you mould a cup you have to make a hollow
it is the emptiness within it that makes it useful.
In a house or room it is the empty spaces
-the doors, the windows - that make it useable
They all use what they are made of
to do what they do,
but without their nothingness they would do nothing.
